Scouting in Tinsel Town

While living in Hollywood struggling alone to raise my daughters Wynonna and Ashley, I was very concerned about over stimulation of false values from that artificial culture.

So I became co-leader of Wy's 3rd grade Brownie Troop and had a positive and rewarding experience from it. Wynonna is still close to fellow Brownie Angelique L'Amour (daughter of author Louie L'Amour) and actress Mariska Hargitay (daughter of Jayne Mansfield).

I was raised in a home where Scouting was an important part of our childhood. My brothers and sister grew up in Scouts as did I.

Today more than ever, kids need help to being defined from within inside of by our materialistic, violent society. The average teen watches 35 hours a week of TV, movies and videos. Scouting allows a kid to actively participate in life instead of being a passive spectator.

While at a Safe School Summit in Oklahoma with Governor Frank Keating, I was appalled to learn 85 kids were killed at school in the last two years. The interaction with others and lessons taught through scouting are a beneficial part of preventing such atrocities in the future.

Long live Scouting!
